The planning of the conference School of Diversity is well on its way. BLUS is very happy to have gotten some positive attention from people who are interested in the topic of the conference.
We are proud to announce that we have two very qualified speakers coming from the US.
- Elizabeth Wilson-Anstey will join us for a few days of the conference. Elizabeth Wilson-Anstey is Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. She has over three decades of experience of working with student affairs. Elizabeth will tell us about the development of student affairs in USA and about running a student affairs office.
- John-Paul Sanchez works to address the sociopolitical needs of LGBTQ individuals living in the United States. He sits on the Steering Committee of the Group of Diversity and Inclusion of the Association of American Medical Colleges. John-Paul has practical experience with developing projects to address LGBTQ needs in higher education. He will stay with us for a few days of the conference and will assist us with our group work.
- DIS – Danish Institute for Study Abroad is an exchange school for American undergraduate students in Copenhagen. The school has a long tradition of working to support diversity. Anders Larsen, Cultural Immersion Coordinator and Heather Wallerson Krog, Project Manager will tell us about DIS and what they do to support diversity.
So BLUS is very excited about the conference. We have stitched together a program containing a mix of informal and formal learning, lots of group work, discussions and off course also some great social activities.
We would like for all participants of the conference and others who are interested in the theme of the conference to be able to educate themselves on diversity. Therefore we have created a page for articles and links. If you have a text you think is relevant for the conference we would like to add it to our page. Please send your text, link or suggestion to diversity@blus.dk.
You can also read our official press release in English and Danish. Please feel welcome to spread the the word.
See you soon in Copenhagen,
BLUS
We are very excited to announce that BLUS will host the annual ANSO conference!
ANSO (Association of Nordic and Pol-Balt LGBTQ Student Organisations) is an umbrella organisation founded in 2004 by BLUS and two other Nordic LGBTQ student organisations. Since then ANSO has grown to having 11 member organisations spread over eight countries. Every summer these 11 organisations come together for a week long conference to discuss issues that are relevant for us as LGBTQ students. This summer BLUS will host the conference.
The conference is an international conference with 60 participants from eight different countries. The whole shebang will take place in July 18-25. For a week we will be living at Kastanievej Efterskole in Frederiksberg. The theme of the conference is ‘School of Diversity’. Today many institutions of higher education are realising the benefits of having a diverse staff and student body. Therefore it is important for us as members of LGBTQ student organisations to be able to influence the process of working towards an inclusion of diversity. What does diversity mean for us and how do we, who represent LGBTQ issues, get the best out of this development? We will have discussions, lectures, workshops and loads of social activity. An ANSO conference is a great way to meet LGBTQ people from other countries.
Participation in the conference is free. All participants will be living at the venue for the week and food will be supplied. BLUS will pay 70% of travel costs. If you have any questions or if you want to help with the planning of the conference please contact diversity@blus.dk.
